Looking for a casual hangout with some fellow Saffas? Join us for the South African Pub Night, our monthly meetup in Vancouver where we catch up over cold drinks, throw some darts, shoot a bit of pool, and just have a lekker kuier.
At the moment, it’s mostly a group of 10–15 ouens who pull in — so yeah, it’s kind of a guys’ night for now — but it’s definitely not exclusive. Everyone’s welcome, whether you’re male, female, newly landed, or been in Canada for decades. If you miss hearing some Afrikaans, want to chat in a proper South African accent, or just want to hang out with people who know what a braai is, you’ll feel right at home.
There’s no formal plan or speeches — just rock up anytime after 6 p.m. (some of us get there earlier) and stay as long as you like. We usually wind down by 10 or 11 since it is a Monday night, but you know how it goes — if the vibes are good, sometimes we hang a little longer.
We meet at Sailor Hagar’s, a solid dive bar in North Vancouver with dartboards, pool tables, friendly staff, and surprisingly decent prices on drinks and food. It’s relaxed, a bit rough around the edges, and totally our vibe.
Whether you want to chat about where to find boerewors, moan about ICBC, or just enjoy a cold one with someone who gets your jokes — this is the place.
