About The Event

The Heritage Day South African Braai Festival is a vibrant celebration of South African culture, bringing together the rich traditions of braai (barbecue), music, dancing, and community. This family-friendly outdoor event features a relaxed picnic vibe, delicious flame-grilled braai platters, traditional sweet treats, and plenty of entertainment on the grass. With fun games, cultural connections, and activities for all ages, it’s the perfect way to experience the warmth, flavour, and festive spirit of South Africa—right here in Canada. Everyone is welcome, from locals to expats and curious newcomers—come for the food, stay for the gees!

🎉 On top of the food and festivities, there will be exciting prizes up for grabs throughout the day. Kids can join in classic fun with an egg-and-spoon race, while teens and adults can test their strength and teamwork in an exhilarating rope pull competition.

🌟 Important Note: Seating is limited! There are only 160 seats available, so be sure to book your spot early to avoid missing out on this unforgettable Heritage Day celebration.

Lower Hume Park is a spacious and inviting riverside setting that’s ideal for outdoor gatherings. The shelter includes 12 tables (2 of which are wheelchair accessible), access to power, a water fountain, washroom facilities, and garbage receptacles—everything you need for a relaxed, picnic-style event.
- Convenient Access & Connectivity - The park provides ample parking and is easily accessible via nearby transit, including the Central Valley Greenway and SkyTrain, making it a breeze for attendees to arrive by car, bike, or public transport. - Natural Beauty & Ecological Charm - Lower Hume is part of a larger 31.72-acre park that’s rich in ecological diversity. The park’s recent master plan emphasizes preserving and enhancing its natural character—proposing features like pollinator meadows, restored habitats along the river, boardwalks, and interpretive spaces for ecological learning. - Family-Friendly & Inclusive - With flat lawn areas perfect for dancing, ample shade, and accessible facilities, the venue supports a joyful, inclusive community vibe—perfect for celebrating Heritage Day with families of all ages and abilities.
