Take Your Taste Buds on Safari!

Southern African cuisine is bold, hearty, and full of stories. It blends indigenous traditions, colonial influences, and global flavours into something truly unique — from spicy curries to slow-cooked potjies, sweet koeksisters to smoky braais.

This is your chance to join us on a flavour safari through Southern Africa. Experience the tastes, hear the stories, and feel the culture come to life.

Braai

The South African barbecue tradition is more than just cooking—it's a social institution. Featuring grilled meats like boerewors (farmer's sausage), lamb chops, and sosaties (kebabs) over open flames.

Often served with: Pap (maize porridge), chakalaka (spicy vegetable relish), and grilled corn

Bobotie

South Africa's national dish consists of spiced minced meat baked with an egg-based topping, featuring Cape Malay flavors including curry, turmeric, and bay leaves with sweet elements like dried fruits.

Often served with: Yellow rice, chutney, and sambal

Bunny Chow

A Durban specialty with Indian influence, this creative dish consists of a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with flavorful Durban curry—typically lamb, chicken, or bean curry.

Often served with: Carrot sambal or a side of chutney

Biltong & Droëwors

South Africa's famous preserved meats. Biltong is air-dried, cured beef (or game) with spices, while droëwors are thin dried sausages seasoned with coriander and other spices.

Perfect for: Snacking, hiking, or pairing with local beers

Malva Pudding

A sweet, spongy dessert of Cape Dutch origin with a caramelized exterior and a soft, moist interior. The hot pudding is drenched in a sweet cream sauce while still hot from the oven.

Often served with: Custard, ice cream, or a sprinkle of cinnamon

Koeksisters

These sweet treats are plaited dough deep-fried and soaked in syrup. The Afrikaner version is crunchy and sticky sweet, while the Cape Malay version is spiced and coated in coconut.

Perfect with: A cup of rooibos tea or coffee

“Food is our common ground, a universal experience.”

Come taste the bold, beautiful flavours of Southern Africa and experience a culinary adventure like no other in the Okanagan!
